Enhanced Resource
Whaley Bridge is a mainstream primary school and we are proud to offer a small number of additional "enhanced" places to pupils with an Educational Health and Care plan whose needs mean they require beyond that which would typically be available in a mainstream school.
How we learn in ER
Every child in our Enhanced Resource Provision follows a personalised curriculum, tailored to meet their individual needs based on their EHCP. Pupils benefit from Specialist Teaching in our Enhanced Resource Base (The Rainforest) in the mornings, with every child then spending the afternoons being fully included in their mainstream class, alongside their year group peers and with the support of our Enhanced Resource staff.
Mornings in the Enhanced Resource Base provide small group and one to one teaching, with a focus of developing skills across the core subjects of;
Core subject work is planned in a cross-curricular, creative and thematic way, with half termly topics framing the curriculum. Through topics based on common interests, celebrations or experiences, the children are immersed in a breadth of activities which offer both new learning experiences as well as revision and development of current skills.
With inclusion at the forefront of our ethos at Whaley Bridge Primary School, every pupil in our Enhanced Resource spends the afternoons in their mainstream class. Children are supported by their Class Teachers and the Enhanced Resource staff to work alongside their year group peers in subjects such as;
In addition to these National Curriculum Subjects, we place a high value on the development of core skills such as;
We have a highly skilled team of staff who are trained in a wide range of specialist approaches to meeting individual children's needs. We provide high quality experiences and achieve progress for all using the following initiatives and approaches;
We are also very fortunate to have access to a wide range of external professionals who advise, support and provide services, such as;
Our facilities
We are fortunate to benefit from extensive outdoor grounds at Whaley Bridge Primary School.
We have a designated classroom area, which is used for structured learning activities, and provides a lower stimulus breakout space during the afternoons if required.
In addition to our learning areas, our children can access a Physio roomand a Soft Play area.
Children in the Enhanced Resource enjoy playtimes with their mainstream peers on our large playground and play field, but also have access to a smaller, quieter play area should this suit them better at times.
We enjoy outdoor learning and maximise the use of our beautiful grounds at every opportunity. We have a 'forest school' area, an 'environmental' area' and large sports pitches as well as outdoor play areas and climbing zones. We equally enjoy getting out into the local community to develop our 'core skills' in real life settings, be this buying our baking ingredients from the local shops, visiting the library or studying nature in our local park.
Admission to the ER
Admission to our Enhanced Resource Provision for children with an Education, Health and Care Plan is through the Derbyshire Local Authority SEND Team, however we would warmly welcome you to contact school to discuss our provision or to arrange a visit to school.
