Puffin
Welcome to our Year 2 class page! This year, we are going to become minibeast investigators and explore these creatures' habitats in our school grounds. We will also be exploring the past events from the Great Fire of London and how this has changed how buildings are constructed today. If you would like to find out more about what we will be learning this year, please see the information highlighted in the long term plan - here.

Home Learning for a Snow Day
Activity 1:
Write a wintry setting description. Take a look outside and describe what you can see. Can you use all five senses to describe? Try to use adjectives to add detail - even 'deepen the moment' by using an expanded noun phrase e.g. the crystal, intricate snowflakes.
Activity 2:
Explore which 2D and 3D shapes you can find around your house or outside. Can you find a variety of 2D shapes e.g. rectangle, circle, square, hexagon, triangle, pentagon? Can you find a variety of 3D shapes e.g. cuboid, cube, sphere, square-based pyramid, cylinder, triangular prism? To 'deepen the moment' begin to investigate their properties - how many vertices, sides, edges or faces do they have?
Activity 3:
In history, we are learning about travel and transport from the past. Choose one of these individuals to research: George Stephenson, Karl Benz or Amelia Earhart. Create a mini-book or poster to present your information.
Activity 4:
Sculpt a puffin in the snow. Email a picture to our class email address: puffin@whaleybridge.derbyshire.sch.uk
